Mayumi Abuka, born and raised in a small town in Japan, packed her bags at the young age of 18 to fulfill her dream of becoming an editorial and celebrity manicurist. After heading to New York to start her career, Mayumi quickly landed a job as an assistant to one of the top editorial and advertising artists, affording her the opportunity to learn and work on set for top magazines such as W, Vogue, Elle, and Cosmo. While assisting, Mayumi focused on building up her own book freelancing in fashion, films and commercials.
Her hard work and tenacity paid off. Mayumi fast became a go-to girl for NYFW giants such as Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Bill Blass and AmFar, as well as earning her place as the lead for several fashion magazines. In addition to her growing on-set career, Mayumi holds an in-house position at Michael Angelo's Wonderland Beauty Parlor located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District.
With much success under her belt, Mayumi still has that twinkle in her eye and joy in her heart for her work. Her work can be seen in Vogue, W, Elle and Nylon, Russian Tatler, Maybelline, LaRuicci Jewelry, Tucker by Gaby Basaro and Vixen Magazine.
